Citizens–Cut Commissions; Ignore Decertification?!

For those who doubted either the studies, the facts or most important, the conclusions in my blog posted 1/30/12 titled, “Citizens Commissions…Three Realities!”; there’s no longer room for you to do so.

Actually, there never was–the conclusion was inescapable and supported by facts that were not in dispute.

Public Adjuster(s)…Raising of the Ire!

Legislatively speaking the last couple of years haven’t been good for Public Adjusters (PA’s).  New laws specifically restrict their activities, advertising, contracts with clients, their fee’s, dealings with companies and much more.

Their revenue’s may have taken even bigger hits from indirect changes that encourage consumers to drop sinkhole coverage or that eliminated the moral hazard created by the prohibition against replacement cost “hold back”, and, again…much more.   [Read more…] about Public Adjuster(s)…Raising of the Ire!

Flood Rebating Prohibited…This is Seismic!

In what many agents and carriers will find monumental, though for widely diverging reasons, the federal government has just instructed Write Your Own (WYO) flood carriers to cease allowing agents to rebate any portion of their commission.

CITIZENS PA’s…Good for the Goose, Great for the Gander!

Did you know that SB-408, which passed during the 2011 session, provided assistance to Citizens policyholders, those with claims, by reducing the amount they would have to pay a public adjuster (PA)? It does this by limiting the fee to 10% of the difference between what Citizens originally offered and what the PA’s intervention might have actually helped the claimant receive. Lawmakers went home doing nothing (again) to derail Citizens exploding population! Their intent is clear–leave the problem with the Citizens board which they’ve already authorized to implement a long list of initiatives that “might”, to varying degrees, reduce Citizens policy count or at least give the impression of doing so. DEEP WATER HORIZON…for agents, a sticky proposition!

It’s been less than a year since oil from BP’s Deep Water Horizon rig ravaged Gulf Coast businesses, including many in Florida. Still…according to government inspections, our beaches are clean and our scrumptious seafood is safe to eat.

Last month, after inspectors raked a few tar balls found on barely one mile of sand, all of Florida’s panhandle was certified to be as pristine as it was prior to the April, 2010 spill–a fact BP  has expended nearly $30 million to spread far and wide.
